Jacob Johnson began studying the piano and music at 4 years old. At 8, he began studying the trumpet. He taught himself to play guitar beginning in middle school. Mr. Johnson went on to win the 2003-2004 Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra Wind Symphony Concerto Competition with his performance of the Arutiunian Trumpet Concerto. After graduating from High School Mr. Johnson took a position playing trumpet with the Lansing Concert Band in Lansing, Michigan, with which ensemble he performed during the fall/winter 2004 concert season.
He began his collegiate music career as a trumpet performcance major at the University of North Texas in January of 2005, but switched to full-time guitar studies in 2006. In 2007, Mr. Johnson began studying classical guitar privately with Sabine Madriguera at Collin College. Since her passing in 2012, Mr. Johnson has studied privately with Dr. Enric Madriguera.
